Haaland’s Price: Ceiling, Not Compromise — Take Palmer, Punt Rogers

Erling Haaland’s price tag is the first problem and the last answer for FPL managers this season. He buys you ceiling — the explosive match-winning returns that win you weeks — but he costs balance, forcing cheap bench fodder and a fragile midfield. Ownership and captaincy logistics mean Haaland is a strategic decision, not a default.

If you cannot stomach the hit to squad structure, there are smarter alternatives than an outright sell: rotate a heavy hitter into your XI for double-gameweeks, stream a cheaper striker on penalty duty, or stagger transfers to avoid crippling hits. The underlying numbers still favour Haaland for goals per 90 and shot volume, but the opportunity cost is real for compact squads. Consider upcoming fixtures and your captaincy plan before you pull the trigger.

The Rogers-versus-Palmer fork is straightforward in my book: Cole Palmer brings higher and steadier goal involvement, set-piece responsibility and a nailed minutes profile, making him the safer pick for rank climbing. Rogers is a cheaper differential with genuine upside but carries rotation and positional uncertainty; use him when you need a budget relief or a calculated gamble. If you want reliable points, back Palmer; if you want a lottery ticket with upside, Rogers is your man.

The Guru’s prediction: don’t sell Haaland to save a few million — keep his ceiling and build around him unless fixtures, form or injury force a rethink. Between Palmer and Rogers I prefer Palmer for consistent returns; choose Rogers only as a conscious punt to free funds. Prioritise guaranteed minutes and clear goal threat — that’s where the real points are won.
